One of my all-time favorite books. Should be read aloud to friends..
Yes, I’m a book junkie. Are you? This is a fabulous, timeless, sweet book. You might enjoy reading it, especially if you’ve read Lawrence Durrell. This is a sympathetic peek into the life of one family in one special place, by one of its less-famous members. And what a family! I’ve read and shared it many times, and it never gets old. Interesting, because Gerald Durrell didn’t really consider himself a writer. He was more a lover of animals, and tried to preserve them, but this memoir is stunning and revelatory and funny, yes, just flat-out sweet.
