I’ve been lucky. My first critique group met for over two years, and just by happenstance, we were a perfect fit. Four women, ranging from 40s to 70s and one man around 60.It sounds odd, but we all bonded. Why is that? Maybe it’s partly because we were all writing memoir, and that’s a very personal genre.
We trusted each other, we helped each other, and we grew because of each other.
Critique groups are not for everyone, but they’re for me. I only wish I’d found one sooner. I recommend them to all my fellow writers. We so often write in isolation. A critique group is a very good way not to become too isolated.
